CARMEN

Born Carmen Angeline Herbert in Elsies River Cape Town on the 5th June 1974, like most great divas had her grounding in gospel music. Starting out in the church choir at the age of eight, she went onto win the “Shoprite hunt for talent” competition in her high school days and turned professional at the age of 17.

She featured with a number of S.A’s top band, toured extensively throughtout South Africa and Namibia and performed at most major concert venues, top hotels and clubs.

Carmen verstility as a vocal stylist has led to her success as a studio/session singer. She has recently composed a number of songs for her debut album soon to be recorded with V.J.R.

Over the years the band V.J.R. has provided a platform for both established and undiscovered talent in South Africa and judging by audience and critics response Carmen looks set to eclipse VJR’s past singers who have gone on to achieve international and Celebrity status, Recent highlights including her appearance with V.J.R on the Sekunjalo jazz concert held at the Baxter Theatre which earned them a standing aviation (now the norm) .

One of S.A.’s most esteemed international events the “Spier Summer Arts Festival has booked Carmen for the Grand Finale as the featured star with S.A’s top all star 20 piece big band led by Ian Smith in a show “Big Band Swing”.
In October this year Carmen joins VJR on their return to Dubai for the “Chivas al a mode” concert series in the wake of their highly acclaimed performance in 2002.
